My storage is full. What can I do?

4later counts everything you save: attachments, images, PDFs, videos, voice memos. How much you have depends on your plan (100 MB Free, 10 GB Basic, 100 GB Premium).

  • From 80 % the account card in Settings shows a warning, from 98 % also a banner in the topic overview and in the entry list.
  • At 100 % you cannot add anything new, not even through the share sheet. If you try in the app, a page tells you that your storage is full and shows the plans with more storage. You can close it without choosing a plan. Everything you saved stays readable, searchable and exportable.
  • Forwarded emails are not saved while your storage is full. You get an email about it, see "Why was my forwarded email not saved?".

Free up space

  1. Delete entries with large attachments, videos first. When editing an entry, the Attachments tab shows the size of each file.
  2. Empty the bin: deleted entries still count until they are gone for good. In Settings you can set the bin to empty itself after a day, a week, a month, six months or a year.
  3. Or change your plan: Settings → plan row, directly from the banner or on the storage-full page.

On the device you can additionally save space without deleting anything: Settings → Storage & Data → turn off "Cache items locally". Entries stay in the cloud and load when you open them; thumbnails stay on the device. Archived entries are only kept locally if you turn on "Keep archive locally".
